$2 Million Medical Malpractice Jury Verdict Against Chester County, PA Hospital (Sept. 2021)
The Morris Wilson Knepp Jacquette law firm secured a $2 million medical malpractice jury verdict against Phoenixville Hospital in September 2021. After a 2 week trial, the Chester County jury sided with the plaintiffs, an elderly couple.
“With the right kind of case—and this was the right kind of case—you should be able to win anywhere because that would be a just result.” Robert Morris, Firm Partner and Attorney for the Plaintiffs.
In 2018, the wife arrived at the emergency room after falling at her home and being unable to move the left side of her body. The ER doctor diagnosed her with a psychiatric disorder but ordered additional observation in the hospital. The next morning, an MRI revealed a stroke.
Stroke Treatment Delay Caused Permanent Injuries
Had the stroke been diagnosed when the plaintiff arrived at the hospital, she would have been eligible to receive a stroke treatment medication, a blood thinner tissue plasminogen activator (tPA). tPA should be administered within 4.5 hours of the onset of a stroke.
Attorneys Robert Morris, Seth Wilson and Joshua Knepp successfully argued that had the medication been given at the proper time, their client would have had a 50% chance of recovering. Instead, she was left with limited movement of her left leg and arm.
